5 quick tips to help you stay on track.

If you read my first few posts on the blog this year, you may remember my take on how to make the year count by simply changing what you do every day in consonance with your goals. In fact my first three posts (all in January) were all about what to do to make sure you achieve your 2015 goals.

But flash forward, and a lot of projects have gone awry, and goals have errrrm…. fallen by the wayside. Some of mine inclusive {*covers face*}. All the new year ginger is gone, and real life has actually happened!

Too much to do, too little time to do it; unanticipated changes lurking in the corners; anticipated changes getting out of hand; unmet expectations…..

If your goals (or projects – personal or corporate) have fallen by the way side like some of mine have, here are a few things you can do to get back on track.

1. Assess the situation: The starting point surely has to be taking stock. Ask these pertinent questions: Why did I take on this project? What was it supposed to help me accomplish?  Or more importantly, are these goals still valid? does this project still make sense? Sit still for a long stretch of time and take stock. Don’t forget to pat yourself on the back if you are well on your way to achieving your goals though, ‘cos some of us are just cool like that. {For your mind!}

2. Question your assumptions: Like the saying goes, assumptions make an ass of ‘u’ and ‘me’. Don’t be an ass, question your own assumptions. Too often we keep doing things that are not working because we fail to question the assumptions that led us into starting out in the first place. Guy! If it’s not working you need to ask yourself some really tough questions. Questions bring answers.

3. Re-Strategise: After you have taken the time to take stock and ask the tough questions, if you still arrive at the conclusion that those goals remain valid, then you need to re-strategise. The means is nothing in and of itself, the end has to justify the means. And so a direct result of questioning your assumptions should be that you emerge with a new strategy – either brand new or re-tweaked old strategy

4. Say NO: As toddlers most of us learnt to say NO, way before we learnt to say YES. But we tend to simply forget as adults. Many times feeling overwhelmed and watching important goals fall by the way side really comes with actually having too much to do. So, my advise is simple – do what only you can do and get ‘real’ support to fill in the gap. Practice saying NO with a smile, and you won’t ever feel guilty for turning things or people down. You have to prioritise.

5. Stay conscious. Stay focused. Stay in love with your goals. The truth is if you want something bad enough the entire Universe tends to conspire to make it happen for you. This is a law. And this law is as potent as the law of gravity. There is a way, and that way will show up. So don’t let the present circumstances weigh you down. Keep hope alive! Keep love alive! And absolutely nothing can come between you and your goals.

All you’ve got to do is keep throwing, and you are bound to hit the mark!
