As far as you can do….

January is a month that is generally dedicated to setting the course for the entire year.

Individuals and corporates set goals.

Churches call a fast. 21 days. 40 days. Even 50 day fasts or longer have been known to be undertaken.

The purpose is unanimous. This must be our best year yet!

We want new jobs. We want promotions. We want more money. We want better relationships. We want to get married. We want children. We want to be happy. We want jaw-dropping testimonies!

Here’s an easy way to hit all of those awesome goals, and take delivery of those testimonies: Do! Do your best. Your very best. Then you can comfortably leave the rest.

I’m amazed at how quickly this year seems to be speeding through….

But you must resist the temptation to settle. Do something different. Setting goals is great. Visualising your goals and immersing yourself in an attitude of gratitude, and faith in their achievement is even greater. But you know what’s the greatest? Taking action…

Yes. So unflattering, I know. But it’s the secret sauce of all of the most successful people that we all know. They consistently take action. Many of those actions may not lead to the exact desired result immediately, or at all. But in consistently taking shots, you finally learn to dunk!

{Enter Michael Jordan}

Michael Jordan Dunk

“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.

-Michael Jordan”

Pheeeeeew!

Imagine getting the kind of memo Father Abraham got from God:

“Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west. 15 All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever. 16 I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted. 17 Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you.” Genesis 13: 14b-17

What more confirmation does anyone need that they have made it. Biiiig…Forever. You don’t even need to do anything it seems. But look carefully, you will see that there was an instruction on a certain action to take: ‘Go walk the length and breadth of the land’. More importantly, this was not an invitation for Father Abraham to dismiss his staff and go to bed. Errrm, I know a number of us would have done exactly that! But Father Abraham kept it moving. He kept his businesses up and running. Kept negotiating with the elders at the gates.

So, let’s keep it moving already. If you want a new job or a promotion, you need to start asking and sending out CVs. If you want exponential growth in your business, you need to activate that plan already, you want to lose weight (I’m sure you saw this one coming, lol), holiday is over – it’s time to start eating clean and exercising consistently….and so on.

How about goals beyond our control like children? and getting married?….Hmmm. For starters learn all you can to be sure you’re not standing in your own way. If you find out you might have been standing in your own way, take steps to correct that. Then be gracious and ready. God is always on time. Always.

Don’t forget. Take action today!
